If Gwar is thrash metal's answer to Spinal Tap, Buttsteak is the Spinal Tap of punk and new wave. A throwback to the late 1970s and early '80s, this East Coast band combines the quirkiness of the B-52s with the hard-rockin' aggression of the Ramones and the Buzzcocks on Shit...Cool It's The Honeycomb Generation. There's nothing even remotely serious about goofy songs like "Mant" (an ode to an individual who's half man and half ant), "Give Me My Bike" and "Felt Up By A Mormon." A silly number about murderous psychos like Charles Manson and Ted Bundy, "Murder Trilogy" shows that these rockers aren't worried about offending more delicate sensibilities. Clearly, wild and irreverent fun was Buttsteak's main goal on this entertaining but little-known CD.
