This 3" CD-R on the microscopic label Crank Satori maps a very different musical area for double-reed player Kyle Bruckmann. EKG is his electro-acoustic partnership with trumpeter Ernst Karel. Both also play analog electronics of the VCS3 kind. This set was put together from various live performances recorded between June and August 2000. "Part One" begins with the English horn and trumpet sketching microsonic improvs not unlike the music of Nmpering. The next two sections move to purely electronic improvisations: strange, slightly eerie abstract shapes. "Part Four" returns to acoustic instrumentation with an instant contrapuntal composition. The duo has ideas, they just don't quite coalesce on this offering. Those who discovered Bruckmann with his solo CD Entymology and/or his set of duets And are in for a big (and potentially disappointing) surprise.
