AllMusic Review by

Shed Your Skin is a largely instrumental album compiled from material composed from 1991-1995. Each track is differently arranged and largely acoustic. The foundation to these tracks is bass and a rich array of ethnic percussion. Tabla, the Egyptian durbeki, dumbek, udu (a Nigerian jar for hand-slapped rhythms), drums, and a gong are employed on "Shed Your Skin." The main melodies are on acoustic guitar, with the occasional flavor of an electric lead thrown in. Montofrd's music is impressionistic and evocative of wide open spaces and a wistful loneliness. The one vocal track, "Take Me Back," is a sad and longing piece with vocals from Cookie Rankin of the famous Canadian Celtic group the Rankin Family. The final two tracks feature saxophone from Colleen Allen. She is prominent on the Toronto blues scene and recorded with former Triumph guitarist Rik Emmett.
