This tape represents a very natural pairing of the Japanese bamboo flute with Tibetan bells. John Singer specializes in Honkyoku, traditional meditation music of the Fuke sect of Zen Buddhism. Many of these pieces have the concept of the bell as their theme, including the famous and technically demanding "Bell Ringing in the Empty Sky." Singer's skillful and soulful playing is beautifully augmented by Karma Moffet's sonorous cymbals, gongs and singing bowls to produce this haunting and evocative tape.
