AllMusic Review by

Riley Lee uses space in his music like few other artists, creating duets between sound and silence. SEARCHING is made up of solo shakuhachi performances like "Koko: Empty Sky," which contains distant long tones followed by periods of complete silence. Other selections such as "Murasakino Reibo: Yearning for the Bell," and "San'Ya: Three Valleys" are less spacious, but retain a beautiful balance between notes (played on Lee's bamboo flute) and many rests. To view this album as a series of tracks would be to miss the point, as SEARCHING is really a set of Zen meditations, inviting deep self-reflection.
