Arnstrom's a Swedish tenor sax and clarinet player with an uncannily authentic swing-era concept. Arnstrom plays with such vitality and manifest honesty that it hardly matters that his chosen style is a bit of an anachronism. Actually, Arnstrom sounds as if he lived through the '30s, so complete is his immersion in the jazz of that period. He's frequently brilliant and, finally, irresistible. The tunes -- "Chicago," "These Foolish Things," "Three Little Words," among them -- are rendered successfully by a talented cast of Arnstrom's homeboys, but it's the extreme musicality and energetic good humor of the leader that puts this one over.
