Sarajevo Renaissance is a triumph of the will: even during the darkest hours of the war in the former Yugoslavia, the Sarajevo Philharmonic continued rehearsing, despite the tenuous relationship of the orchestra's multi-ethnic membership of Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Macedonians and Slovenians. Their persistence paid off -- Sarajevo Renaissance, their first recorded work in the peacetime era, is a glorious paean to freedom and cultural rebirth, highlighted by performances of pieces by Maurice Jarre ("The Message, Suite for Orchestra") and Eric Breton ("Bosnian Suite for Orchestra" and "Overture on Bosnian Themes").
