Fine Tune's Samba & Bossa Nova: The Gold Collection is hardly a definitive overview of samba or bossa nova, nor should it be seen as an introduction to either genre. Instead, view it as an affordable sampler of the two styles, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Not every performance is a classic, and several are subpar live tracks, but with cuts by Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Joyce & Maria Bethania, Baden Powell, Jao Bosco and Milton Nascimento, it's an infectious, entertaining listen that may be of interest to curious, budget-minded listeners.
