AllMusic Review by

The music of this recording is drawn from favorite melodies of the Meiji Era (1867 - 1912), the Taisho Era (1912 - 1925) and the Showa Era, which began in 1926. Commissioned by Japan Columbia, the album was recorded in France. The special arrangements were made by Akio Yashiro, a prominent Japanese composer, for Rampal and his frequent collaborator, the eminent harpist Lilly Laskine.
