AllMusic Review by

In an era where every pop singer who strums an acoustic guitar is hailed as the next important folksinger, the true meaning of folk music becomes even more obfuscated. Dan Berggren is a folksinger in the traditional sense, even though most of the songs on this recording were self-penned. Berggren sings, writes, and performs in the Adirondacks style, referring to that mountainous region of New York. A guitar, autoharp, and banjo player, he is joined by hammered dulcimer player Dan Duggan, and together they provide gentle, rustic, and singalong-type songs, sometimes bittersweet and introspective but other times completely frivolous. The tracks on this album represent four decades of songwriting from Berggren, yet flow together with a natural continuity rarely displayed in collections spanning almost 40 years.
