The rareness of the material makes this an essential catch for serious soul collectors. Casual and front running fans, however, will have little interest in this obscure soul singer -- and prolific songwriter, with over 1,000 titles registered with BMI to his credit. Roger Hatcher's most significant compositions: "Caught Making Love," an R&B hit for Clarence Carter, and "I Dedicate My Life to You," done by the Dramatics' on Dramatically Yours, represents his finest efforts. Here you get an earful of Roger's earthier versions of both songs. Hatcher's a crying singer, blessed with a natural whine, that enthrals many and fuels his cult following. His "Sweetest Girl In The World," found support amongst Northern Soul fans, and others like "Stormy Love Affair," "All My Love Belongs To You," and "I Cried Like A Baby," illustrates vulnerable heartfelt soul. And you'll marvel at his painfully soulful remake of Vernon Harrell's "That's When I'll Stop Loving You" (originally by Linda Jones), and one of the few songs that Roger didn't write. This import is the only legitimate compilation of Roger Hatcher's recordings available; a bad quality bootleg of dubious origins circulated among collectors for years, but this is much better.
