Not the cheerful, jazzy Squirrel Nut Zippers that everyone from the MTV generation is familiar with. Rather, Roasted Right is more of a laid back three song collection that reflects more upon their bluesy influences. Without a single brass or woodwind instrument to be found on here, the Squirrels whip out their banjos, slide guitars and violins to create more of upbeat blues sound. Katherine Whalen's Billie Holiday-like vocals are still present as is the low grade sound quality -suitable for this record to have more of an authentic feeling as if it came out in the 1940's. Nothing here really to swing to, maybe enough energy to do the Charleston, but no "jump and jiving" to be found.
