The Badlees are a Pennsylvania-based quintet whose oeuvre is steeped in rootsy, acoustic-based rock style married with lyrics and melodies that drip with an earnestness worthy of Hootie & Co. RIVER SONGS is the band's fourth self-produced CD, but their first nationwide release and it is a testament to their six years of steady work.
The songs themselves are solid, and the band's musicianship is impeccable. The Badlees glide smoothly from driving rock numbers to slickly arranged power ballads, throwing in offbeat, sung-spoken epics like "Song For A River" for good measure. Other tunes suggest a unique melding of country and metal that somehow works. With RIVER SONGS, the Badlees deliver the goods.
