How much this really is the sound of of the Rio Carnival is uncertain, since the booklet with the CD offers no information on the tracks themselves or the artists, but it's certainly a collection of the kind of upbeat samba to be found at the annual Brazilian parade that marks the start of Lent. Some tracks are fairly generic, but there are several standout tracks, including "Brasil em Festa" from Coral da Copa, Genaro's "O Mundo e Uma Bola," and the lilting closer, "Brasiliana," from Orquestra E Coro Cid. There's nothing downright bad here, but much of the samba fails to inspire by being immediately forgettable.
