There is a lot of difference between jibaro music popular in New York and in Puerto Rico, mostly because its New York public is older. Lugo performs classic forms in traditionally stark style. But he sings several trullas, a Christmas form not much recorded in New York, and his mixed-set backup group is more on the lines of the pleneros than older jibaros. Quintero, a cuatro-player the equal of any, is wonderful on the album: he's at his best working within the constraints of backing a singer.
