There are countless Bob Marley collections on the market -- some legally licensed and some perhaps not -- and more of them show up every month. This two-disc, 45-track set cobbles together Marley sides recorded between 1968 and 1972, most notably with producers Leslie Kong and Lee “Scratch” Perry, although there are also some demos here that were made for Johnny Nash and Danny Sims, and while the recording quality isn’t as crisp and polished as Marley’s later and more famous work for Island Records, there’s no denying the raw energy and power of these earlier sides. This set is fine for what it is -- there are just so many others exactly like it out there.
