This three-disc set contains a cornucopia of early material by reggae's reigning king. While Marley's later work sometimes sounded slick and overproduced, his early Jamaican recordings with the Wailers brandished a raw, soulful edge that qualifies them unequivocally as rebel music. What these sides lack in polish they more than make up for in gutsy passion and lock-step grooves. The set boasts some of Marley's finest early songs, including "Trenchtown Rock," "Kaya," "Soul Rebel," and "Mellow Mood."
