A surprisingly strong debut EP. Formed by four students at the University of Massachusetts, this band was a money-making operation from the start. Basing its sound on a momentary upsurge in garage rock popularity, this tight four-piece put together dozens of solid, riff-heavy songs to compete with other acts such as the Hives and Thee Headcoats. And compete it did. Crunchy, screamy, and rockin', with a drum sound to die for, these four tunes are legit enough for genuine bikers to groove to. Strongly reminiscent of At the Drive-In's Relationship of Command, the tunes switch from crunchy to rockin' in the bat of an eye. While perhaps some of the ideas don't seem that complex or original, Read Yellow is sure-fire evidence that something great is going to come of this band.
