Charles is one of the most important figures in 20th century pop music, a giant of jazz, R&B, blues, pop, country and more. For someone so prolific and versatile, it's virtually impossible to produce a representative single-disc compilation. Wisely, the folks behind RAY'S BLUES don't try. Instead of trying to capture great moments from the many phases of Charles' career, this collection focuses on the bluesier side of Brother Ray's catalogue. To hear Charles lend his fabled pipes to cuts like "C.C. Rider" and the title cut is to understand the journey that the blues have made from the country to the city. Avid Charles fans will want to dig deeper into the discography, as they'll find few surprises here, but newcomers will find a world of discovery in this document of one man's whole-hearted blues.
