Randezouk shows the growing popularity and sophistication of Eric Brouta's releases. The album starts off with a steam-filled first track that is pure molten swing. Eric Brouta's voice has developed a smoky sensual timbre of considerable depth. He changes tempos on the album with ease, going from swinging zouk love to zouk chire seamlessly. The polyrhythmic beats he works into his songs give them a drive that is hard not to move to. The second and third tracks are vivid examples of his ability to interweave many percussive strains together to produce that subtly addictive Antillean swing for which he is so well-known. The apparent simplicity of his compositions belies a fine network of pulsating variations percolating underneath everything. An all-around strong release with high-quality songwriting, dark silky vocals, and solid instrumental backup that is good example of what zouk of the '90s is about. Highly recommended.
