Old School 101 seems to go way too out of their way to live up to their name. Granted, the fast-paced reminiscence of 1988 East Coast hardcore makes up a majority of Pura Vida. But after awhile, the band slows down for more of an appeal of pop-soaked undertones that water down this history lesson. On top of the out of place horn section -- taken from the obnoxious circus music of Catch 22 -- on "Color for Ms," one is better off buying something from Youth of Today or Gorilla Biscuits rather than trying to learn from these kids.
