AllMusic Review by

Northern Cree is regarded as one of the best acts in modern Native American powwow music. Listening to this live recording of unabashed, earth-shaking vocals, it's easy to see why. Though the melody never follows an expected path, this band could not be tighter or more aligned. Their high-toned, perfectly pitched vocals sound like the frenzied voices of the possessed, penetrating even the most hardened ears. The live performance aspect of Northern Cree's album--such as the moved cries of the crowd, the announcer, or the incidental bells in "The Jingle Dress Song"--makes the listener feel embraced within a spiritual and social tradition that extends back thousands of years. With its hypnotic and body-quaking music, this Northern Cree performance can have the feel of a mind-altering or visionary experience.
