Some things just don't belong together -- drinking and driving is one example, and pairing polka with disco is another. No doubt inspired by Myron Floren's 1977 debacle Disco Polka, Jimmy Sturr's two-LP Polka Disco updates traditional favorites like "Beer Barrel Polka" for a post-Saturday Night Fever world, and the results are predictably disastrous. Just because both polka and disco are genetically engineered for dancing doesn't change the fact that their tempos and rhythms are miles apart -- Sturr's attempt to shoehorn familiar polka melodies into contemporary disco arrangements simply falls flat, and as for his backing unit -- well, let's just say they're no Love Unlimited Orchestra and leave it at that.
