Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) is notorious for releasing CD singles that are as long as some bands' official full-length releases. Signed to Reznor's Nothing label, British duo 12 Rounds have followed his approach by releasing Pleasant Smell, which collects a total of eight different versions of the title track and is nearly 40 minutes long. The original version (from their album My Big Hero) kicks things off, which serves as a point of reference for the other seven remixed versions, since they're all varied musically. NIN alumni Charlie Clouser, Keith Hillebrandt and Clint Mansell re-work the tunes, and Reznor himself gets in on the action for two versions. Although their full-length is better, Pleasant Smell is an affordable investment for those wanting their first taste of 12 Rounds' elecro-sound; highly recommended to fans of the band, as well as admirers of Reznor's work.
