This collection of Art Tatum transcriptions is quite unusual due to the fact that it doesn't repeat many of the common recordings. Included within this phenomenal LP are tracks from the Armed Forces Radio Service Jubilee discs recorded during World War II, the AFRS Basic Library, and the State Department's Voice of America series for use to broadcast behind the Iron Curtain early in the Cold War. Tatum is heard with Slam Stewart and Tiny Grimes on a swinging "Exactly Like You," and the pianist sits in with the Les Paul Trio on four tracks, including "Ja-Da" and "I've Found a New Baby." There are plenty of great Tatum solo features, too. Even with the audible surface noise due to the condition of the source material, this should be a highly sought-after album for Tatum fans because ten of the 13 tracks are not found on any other commercial releases.
