AllMusic Review by

A concept compilation showcasing a wide range of post-techno futurists in their attempts to make songs imitating real-life machinery sounds, Penguin Mechanics, Vol. 3 was essentially a more rhythmic, less free-wheeling take on the familiar seizure-inducing interludes of an IDM record. Luckily, this was not the intelligent techno equivalent of Stomp; the musicians here made much of their assignment with somewhat inconsistent names like Freeform, Cex, Brothomstates, and Bauri putting a surprising amount of creative spirit, production judgment, and widely under-acknowledged humor into the harsh sounds of assembly lines and sheet-cutters.
