This is Michael Hakanson-Stacy's fourth release in three years. He doesn't divert from his passion and proven formula for acoustic folk, blues and gospel music. Unlike his previous albums where he invited outside musicians (like Brooks Williams) to join him, Hakanson-Stacy plays all of the instruments on Pearls & Stones, preferring the wooden body resonator guitar and metal body dobro. In addition he plays harmonica and mandolin, and sings lead as well as writing a bulk of the 19 selections contained on this album. Among the outstanding pieces on this recording are Rev. Gary Davis' gospel testimonials, "I am the Light of the World" and "I Saw the Light," as well as Hakanson-Stacy's wildly antipodal "Stagolee." Amid the traditional and original gospel, folk and blues vocal numbers are several instrumentals that add a different tenor to this album.
