AllMusic Review by

While most non-classical guitarists find themselves drawn to rock, blues, or jazz, Scott Huckabay has synthesized many of these styles to form his own idiom. Using a variety of open tunings and innovative hand techniques, Huckabay proves on PEACE DANCE that music does not have to fit into the narrow constraints of any genre.

Key selections on PEACE DANCE include "Dreamer of Treez," a piece that blends together folk elements with post-rock sensibilities and improvisational playfulness. One of the most salient features of Huckabay's style is his prolific use of harmonics. The reflective "Into the Spirit" freely uses such effects, as does the upbeat "Ageless Time." Huckabay is also not afraid to use effects pedals on his acoustic guitar. The intermingling of ocean waves with his chorus-drenched guitar is particularly effective on "Children of the Sea." The highlight of this album is Huckabay's virtuosic slide guitar on the title track. Here, Huckabay pays homage to the Delta blues tradition, but retains his own voice.
