A five-song installment from Australian alterna-poppers Weave, Party on the Sideline is a frustratingly catchy audition that nicely showcases their inviting multifaceted sound. From the chunky grunge pop opener "Blanket" to the instantly memorable melodies of the title track, Weave present themselves as equally comfortable aping Ben Folds Five as the Foo Fighters. While the pensive chiming guitars of "Truffles" brings to mind fellow countrymen the Lucksmiths, the misty-eyed country balladry of "Not Goodbye Now," delivered with Kristy Wilson's sultry croon, adds an unexpected dimension. Overall, an excellent introduction.
