This collector's LP has a lot of obscure items, featuring Benny Goodman during one of his least active periods; half of the numbers are from 1965-67. Most of the selections are taken from television soundtracks. The great clarinetist is heard with various small groups and a few studio orchestras; among his sidemen are vibraphonist Red Norvo, pianists Russ Freeman, Dave Grusin, Lou Levy and Dick Hyman, guitarist Charlie Byrd, trumpeter Jack Sheldon and tenor saxophonist Flip Phillips. Most of the repertoire is fairly typical, but Goodman sounds reasonably inspired, even though he had been playing many of the songs for 30 years at that point. Collectors will want this now-rare set.
