Yet another entry in Terre Thaemlitz's Rubato series. Excuse the lack of enthusiasm, but after previous volumes explored the music of Kraftwerk and Gary Numan on solo piano, you'd think that was maybe enough. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Thaemlitz again takes a seat at his piano and interprets a hearty dose of Devo's music. Not exactly the most engaging proposition. Devo fans may argue, but keep in mind that these are solo piano recordings -- that means no vocals, no beats, no nothing except for one piano. Granted, Thaemlitz can indeed play some stunning piano -- so stunning, in fact, that you can't help but marvel. Still, that sense of wonder dissipates rather quickly, particularly if you've already been subjected to previous Rubato albums. The Thaemlitz cult out there may find this engaging, not necessarily for the music though but rather for the extensive and impressive liner notes penned by the man himself in a rather playful tone.
