Odyssey is the latest release on Scotland's Surreal to Real label, the same people who brought us John Dyson's Evolution. Boddy is a synthesist who specializes in dramatic large scale orchestrations. Most of his pieces revolve around simple four-chord structures, but they are embellished with the sampled sounds of acoustic guitar, strings, horns, choirs and percussion to create grandiose musical experiences. Odyssey incorporates rock elements and classical romanticism, with a strong nod in Kitaro's direction, plus ethnic influences, such as on the atmospheric "Amazonia." This is majestic music with an epic feel, hinting at the magic of lost times and places.
