With an all-star cast -- including Kaye Ballard, Larry Kert, Maureen McGovern, Lisa Kirk, Alexis Smith, and Elizabeth Welch -- and the vibrancy of a live recording, plus one of the cleverest scores ever written for the stage, there's not a wrong note or even a slightly off nuance to be heard in this dream of a recording. The music and sensibilities are so frothy and bubbly that this CD could easily sway listeners who are not fans of musicals or Cole Porter. It's that good. Additionally, the annotation (by Miles Kreuger) is more than thorough, and even the cover design by Hillary Knight (of "Eloise" fame) is utterly beguiling -- with the result that the entire release is nearly as much an education in some of the finer things in musical theater and art as it is an exceptional entertainment.
