AllMusic Review by

The way Ryan, Brian, and Russell talk about their first CD, they practically deny it exists. After all, No Time in Particular was recorded while they were finishing high school, and they've made some serious strides since then (see Outside the Lines for exhibit A). But while the CD lacks the grown-up sound of their later efforts, the boys have no reason to blush at this first recording. A majority of music groups never get to the point where Colors began. Guitar hooks force you in, and lyrics of love and friendship keep you firmly planted next to your stereo. The three best friends blend their voices so well you may never be able to detect one from the other. From their energy, you know they love what they do. From their songs, you get the feeling they were born to sing together. The album was re-released in November 2001 as a special collector's edition with additional photographs on the CD liner. Most enjoyable for the ears are "Riding," "Nowhere," and "Memory Train." Also note earlier recordings of "Rain" and "J.A.L.S." (Just Another Love Song). This album started it all.
