Disky's decision to split its three-disc punk retrospective, No Spitting, into three volumes was a little misguided, since as a whole the set could at least lean on its stronger sections. Without the obvious "hits" of the Sex Pistols or the Clash, but lacking in the depth that hardcore fans would expect, No Spitting gets stranded in a merely passable punk no man's land. Sure, Devo's "Mongoloid" is a great track, and Generation X's "King Rocker" has a great greaser punk vibe. But these are staples of most every punk retrospective ever released. No Spitting is simply rehashing what's already been rehashed a hundred times, and forgetting to include any substantial liner notes in the process.
