This is another interesting release from Weddings, Parties, Anything (W.P.A.). Released on Billy Bragg's Utility label, this mini-album combines material from their first album, and the EP, Goat Dancing on the Tables. Prepared primarily for the British, and North American markets, the mini-album features great songs, but does not do a good job of representing this band to the new listener, for whom this package was presumably assembled. The material is strong, but the songs sound better when listened to within the context of the debut album, Scorn of the Women. And even more disappointing is the fact that the terrific live track "Sergeant Small," from the EP Goat Dancing on the Tables is not included. This mini-album could have easily been stretched to be a full-length album, featuring several of W.P.A.'s brilliant, non-album B-sides. This was to be their only release on this label.
