Akron/Family member Seth Olinsky worked diligently on songwriting project Cy Dune over a course of five years of international touring, eventually penning 100 songs he hoped to release in a fine-tuned form, siphoning the various layers of inspiration and experience into a collective pool. When attempting to record the best versions of these songs, however, Olinsky ran into some stumbling blocks and couldn't pull the grit and expression he wanted out of himself. Inspired by reading Patti Smith's autobiographical chronicle Just Kids, Olinsky recorded the No Recognize EP as a sort of reset, getting some raw electric free sounds out of his system in order to return to the blues-based primitivism of his 100-song magnum opus.
