New York Jazz, 1928-1933 Review

by Scott Yanow

Although nearly all of the material included on this sample LP has since been reissued on CD, the album does have an appealing combination of music. There are selections from Luis Russell's 1929 orchestra, Earl Jackson's Musical Champions, Adrian Rollini, Hoagy Carmichael's Collegians, Cliff Jackson's Krazy Kats, the Moonlight Revelers, Fletcher Henderson and Duke Ellington; a fine cross section of the New York jazz scene of the early 1930s.
