Although the artists on Mundo Tropical: Merengue aren't the best known in their genre, they still provide a pretty decent collection, despite the fact that there seems to be some confusion between "merengue" and "mambo." Italian-based, Cuban-born Havana Mambo have four songs on the album, including their hit "Ula Ula" (as well as "Chica Merengue," which sounds a lot like "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid), and Eddy Herrera's "Pégame Tu Vicio" is fun and bright. DJ Elvik and Iván Bianco's "Biyi Biyio Latin Dance" is a misstep, however, concentrating too much on modern, clubby drums, but for those who aren't looking for a strict merengue collection, but rather just something with a beat, Mundo Tropical might do the trick.
