Movin' Review

by Scott Yanow

Wes Montgomery's Riverside recordings (which found him really excelling in straightahead bop-oriented jazz) were reissued on attractive double LPs before CDs took over; all of his music has since been repackaged on single CDs and in a 12-CD boxed set, This particular two-fer combines together the music that resulted in Movin' Along (an underrated quintet set with pianist Victor Feldman and flutist James Clay), and an often-heated live performance with tenor-saxophonist Johnny Griffin and pianist Wynton Kelly that was originally titled Full House. Highlights include "Tune Up," "Body and Soul," "Sandu," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," "Blue 'N Boogie" and "S.O.S."
