More Barn, benefiting Young's longtime Bridge School for physically challenged kids, isn't as unique a concept as the nearly simultaneously released double-CD Cinnamon Girl: Women Artists Cover Neil Young for Charity. But it also doesn't lack for talent or material. The likes of Waco Brothers, Silos, Steve Wynn, Howe Gelb, and Jay Bennett & Edward Burch expand the reach of Young's catalog, half avoiding the well-traveled Decade and hits selections favored by the Cinnamon women and most. These are some really rustic countrypolitan versions (like the Silos' "For the Turnstiles"), or psychotic reactions (Wynn's "Sleeps With Angels") or even classical strings (Malaniejane's "Needle and the Damage Done"); i.e., every artist is confident enough to make the songs entirely their own, rather than the bane of most tributes, rote-reverent replication.
