AllMusic Review by

Part of the uber-extensive JVC World Sounds series, this collection of works of Mongolian hoomii (or khoomei -- throat singing) and urtin duu (long songs) is an exceptional example of the capabilities of the human voice. More extensive recording credits would have been nice, but that's a minor detail compared to the music. The clarity of voice needed for a good rendition of an urtin duu piece is remarkable (if only Dorzdhagva was still alive), and the singers here undertake the task quite well. Also, the hoomii is of a good quality, showcasing all of the major forms. As a final kicker, a good deal of morin khuur playing is included. Overall, not a bad compilation at all. Others might be a bit more expansive, such as Deep in the Heart of Tuva.
