AllMusic Review by

The country/gospel-tinged "Money to Burn" was the follow-up single released from Richard Ashcroft's debut solo album, and it is perhaps the most satisfying. A heavy dose of pedal steel guitar saturates both of the single's B-sides as Ashcroft flexes his Gram Parsons-esque songwriting skills. "Leave Me High" and "XXYY" are lovelorn and moody in scope, but pack the lyrical punch and hooks that made Ashcroft's ballads with his former band the Verve some of the best to emerge from Britain during the 1990s.
