Guitarist Tim Posgate draws his sound and improvising approach from several diverse areas including rock, the unusual distortions of Bill Frisell and the free funk of Steve Coleman. Mostly playing with a trio that also includes electric bassist Dane Wedderburn and drummer Ilios Steryannis (a couple pieces add the soprano of Jane Bunnett and/or trumpeter Lina Allemano), Posgate sticks to originals throughout his well varied set. Not all of the music is of equal interest to jazz listeners due to the heavy rock influence on some performances but Posgate deserves credit for his willingness to take chances and stretch himself. It will be interesting to watch his future musical evolution and see where he ends up.
