Another single from the Optimist album, Mind Over Money captures the ghost-of-Radiohead vibe of that release, Ollie Knights' delicate semi-falsetto, and the equally careful arrangement that betrays said influence without beating it into the ground like, say, Travis. The extra tracks on this single, the first of two in usual U.K. fashion, take slightly different turns -- "The Road," here appearing in a radio session version, takes a straightforward folky approach that is a touch reminiscent of labelmates Kings of Convenience. "Sunjets/Heavy 2," meanwhile, veers toward the explicitly arty and easily succeeds, an instrumental piece that by the switch between its two parts sounds like Cocteau Twins with far less reverb but all the beauty. Some low-key guitar plucking done just right is all that's needed to set the serene stage.
