Compiled by the director himself, Mexico & Mariachis: Music from and Inspired by Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi Trilogy includes 14 tracks intended to give a clearer perspective on Antonio Banderas' Western/action films. Despite the title, there are only a few mariachi-based songs, with the rest of the material consisting of rock, cumbia, and Nuevo tango. Only two tracks have originally appeared on the trilogy's previous soundtracks, (Desperado's "Back to the House That Love Built" and "Cancion del Mariachi") with the other 12 made up of recordings from the likes of Los Lobos, the Iguanas, and Chingon.
