Slowly building up to the release of a full-length through singles, remixes, and EPs, Kwes. released Meantime for Warp in 2012. Even for an EP, it runs short, at only about 15 minutes, and starts off slow with an ambient synth instrumental. The following three songs better illustrate what Kwes. is capable of as a producer and musician, falling somewhere between Thundercat and James Blake, in a cool blend of downtempo, dubstep, and R&B. "Bashful" is the standout single, but things get really interesting in "lgoyh," a sparkling seven-minute emotronica wash that gives the feeling of floating in a tall glass of lemon and ginger, and gets progressively trippier from there. Listen closely for the ice cube solo.
