In 2002, New Zealand band the Lads released their project Marvel. The follow up album to their 2000 release Lost at Sea, stylistically Marvel is a variation of rock, featuring influences of ska, pop and alternative, resembling the sound of groups such as They Might Be Giants, Delirious and Newsboys.
Winner of the "Smelliest Mosh Pit 2000" award, the band is composed of members Bennett Knowles, Chris White, Matt Chapman, Mark Millard and Steve King. On Marvel, The Lads focus on the theme of searching for God. Songs include "Creator," "Call My Name" and "International Mystery Man."
Overall, Marvel is a fun release with its upbeat melodic rock sound. However, amidst the quirky musical arrangements, it does not stray from communicating a passionate message clearly pointing to The Lads relationship with God.
