With a mix of gangsta rap bravado and hardcore beats, the artists featured on the Major Work Soundtrack deliver some average-to-subpar hip-hop. It isn't that the individuals here are poor. Several high-profile underground rappers (including the fiercely independent Too Short) deliver tracks. But the songs aren't terribly exciting, many of them simply go through the motions without sacrificing a truly good track to the soundtrack. This may or may not be on purpose, but it definitely makes for a bland listen. There are enough pleasant beats and rhymes to keep it from falling below average, but that is faint praise for a group of artists who have proved their worth on their own albums in the past.
