Franklin has always discussed the political and music roots of reggae music and how it has inspired them. Apparently, this single answers the questions associated with how could reggae and hardcore merge without sounding too bad. On the contrary, it's not that bad at all; different, but in no ways painful to listen to. Both "Major Taylor" and "Personal Emergencies" flow in that reggae beat without sounding Rastafarian. Franklin also manage to incorporate an easy to swallow DC sound of Fugazi with a lot of rougher edges.
